SIOFA - Fisheries Agreement for the South Indian Ocean

Description

This Fisheries Agreement was signed in Rome on 7 July 2006 and entered into force in June 2012. To date, SIOFA has ten Contracting Parties: Australia, China, Cook Islands, European Union, France on behalf of its Indian Ocean Territories, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mauritius, Seychelles and Thailand.

SIOFA is not a Regional Fisheries Organisation but rather a Regional Fisheries Agreement and therefore does not have a permanent Secretariat. Its objective is to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of the Area's fisheries resources, with the exception of tuna, in areas outside national EEZs.Agreement Website
