Statement of Recognition of Professional Qualifications for the Issuance of the Portuguese Seaman's Book

When to apply?

When you want to obtain a declaration recognising your professional qualifications as a seafarer in order to obtain the Portuguese maritime card. The maritime licence is issued by the local Maritime Authority (captaincies and maritime delegations).

Who can apply?

Individuals over the age of 16 who perform or are trained to perform duties on board vessels, or those who legally represent them.

Where can I apply?

The application is submitted online through the Electronic Maritime Counter (BMar).
Go to www.bmar.pt, register and log in.
In the PERSONAL AREA / MY ENTITY,
1. Click on Create Application;
2. Select the Application Category ‘Maritime’ and the Application Type ‘Statement of Recognition of Professional Qualifications for the Issuance of the Portuguese Seaman's Book’. 
3. Fill in the required information and attach the requested documents in the appropriate fields, check the information and submit your application.

Which documents are required?

ALL APLICATIONS 

  • Identification document (passport, residence permit or card, in the case of third countries, or others)
  • Seaman's Book (cover page, embarkation/disembarkation records and endorsements)
  • Basic Safety Certificate, where applicable
  • Evidence of training programme content and hours
  • Medical certificate for seafarers

 

When the applicant has an employment relationship with the applicant company:
- Statement signed by the Head of the Company authorizing the employee to perform applications on behalf of the company.

Additionally, if acting on behalf of a third-party:
- Statement authorizing the third-party to act on their behalf.

Each statements shall have clearly indicated the validity period for which the person is authorized to act on its behalf.
