Any interested citizen over 18 years of age who holds a minimum of 25 hours of training provided by the Fisheries and Maritime Professional Training Center (FOR-MAR) in the areas of maritime safety, basic knowledge of marine resource management, and environmental protection and sustainability practices.

The application is submitted online through the Electronic Sea Desk (BMar):

  1. Open www.bmar.pt, please register and log in;
  2. Press the New Request button, choose the following category "Professional Fishing" and Request type "ANI - Initial catcher registration";
  3. Fill in the required data.
  4. Check your request summary and submit the application.

Note: The vacancy can only be assigned to the captaincy corresponding to the tax address, and after availability. This expression of interest is only valid for the current year, and must be repeated whenever you want to express interest. The amount paid will not be refunded even if there is no place for a vacancy.

Harvesting marine animals

  • Declaration of tax residence issued by the tax authority
  • Updated proof of registration with the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) to carry out harvesting activities (03112)
  • Training, with a minimum of 25 hours, provided by the Fisheries and Maritime Professional Training Center (FOR-MAR), in the areas of maritime safety, basic knowledge of marine resource management, and environmental protection and sustainability practices.

Seaweed harvesting and algae harvesting in professional diving

  • Updated proof of registration with AT in activity 03112 - Harvesting algae and other sea products
  • If you collect algae while diving, include a certification document issued by the competent authorities certifying your suitability for professional diving.
  • Training, with a minimum of 25 hours, provided by the Fisheries and Maritime Professional Training Center (FOR-MAR) in the areas of maritime safety, basic knowledge of marine resource management, and environmental protection and sustainability practices.

With a support vessel 

  • Title of Ownership of the Vessel
  • Declaration from the Owner of the support vessel, if the catcher is not the owner
  • If the vessel is registered as a local auxiliary vessel, a valid inspection certificate must be attached.

If representative:

  • Statement or power of attorney from the holder (a mandatory document to initiate the process).

If representative of an entity:

  • Statement legal representative of an entity (a mandatory document to initiate the process).
