1st Presentation of the Action Plan to Minimise Incidental Captures of Mammals, Seabirds and Turtles
On 22 September, the first session to promote the Action Plan to Minimise Accidental Captures of Mammals, Seabirds and Turtles was held in Aveiro, at the APARA facilities. The session was attended by representatives from the Administration, DGAM, ICNF, SPEA, FORMAR and the sector, particularly from the xávega fishing industry, which is relevant in this area.
Portugal has taken on the mission of implementing measures to minimise the impact of fishing on marine mammals, birds and reptiles at risk from fishing. To this end, the plan proposes several actions to promote the use of deterrent equipment or strategies to prevent accidental capture during fishing, thereby promoting sustainability and biodiversity.
Actors in the fishing sector are invited to attend the following sessions:
- 30 September, at 3 p.m., at the OPCENTRO facilities, Peniche Fishing Port;
- 2 October, at 3 p.m., at IPMA, in Olhão.
