DGRM, through the Deputy General Director, Ricardo Segurado and the Director of Natural Resources Services, Cristina Rosa, received on October 24th the President of FITI, Sven Biermann, as well as the Regional Coordinator for Lusophone Countries, Sara Duarte Lopez.
FITI is an international organization that aims to promote transparency and public participation in fisheries governance.
The main objective of this international organization is to ensure that information related to the fishing sector is accessible, understandable and relevant to all stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations, fishermen and the general public.
FITI's mission is also to contribute to promoting sustainable fishing, improving the management of marine resources and combating illegal fishing, which affects the sustainability of the oceans and the economy of many regions.
The main objective of this meeting was to launch the challenge for Portugal to become a member of FITI, with this accession being considered by international representatives as a strategic step for Portugal, especially considering the positive impact it can have in reaffirming the promotion of transparency and sustainability in country's fisheries.
