As part of the B+ Summit Portugal 2024, organized by ABA – Advanced Bioenergy Association, the energy transition in maritime transport was debated yesterday morning.

After António Costa Silva's initial intervention on the energy transition, there was a presentation and debate on the decarbonization of maritime transport and the acceleration of the energy transition in this sector.

Fulfilling its mission, the DGRM's intervention was to inform the sector about the new regulations in force, namely the FuelEU Maritime Regulation, and the new obligations that will come into force in the coming years. Together with the IMO guidelines for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the new EU regulations will require shipowners, shipping companies, authorities and service and fuel suppliers to make a major effort to adapt and learn.
