Public consultation on the draft National Maritime Spatial Planning Situation Plan for the Azores Subdivision (PSOEM-Azores)
The public consultation period for the national maritime spatial planning situation plan for the marine waters adjacent to the Azores archipelago (PSOEM-Azores) is underway.
Despite the delay in the planning of the Azores' national maritime space, Portugal, by planning the marine waters corresponding to the subdivisions of the Mainland, Madeira and the Extended Continental Shelf in 2019, has managed to plan more than 3 million km2 of sea, which means that Portugal is the Member State that has contributed the most to the planning of the maritime space under the sovereignty of the Member States to date.
The public consultation of the PSOEM-Azores will continue for 60 days, and it is expected that the entire national maritime space will be duly organized by the end of the first half of 2024.
With the completion of the planning of the entire national maritime space, Portugal will be the European coastal state that contributes most to the environmental and economic sustainability of the oceans.
