The DGRM, in conjunction with the IEFP - Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional, certified the first Portuguese company for the recruitment and placement of seafarers, under the provisions of Law No. 146/2015, of 9 September.
The company “Marítimos Manning Portugal”, obtained the certification to act as a recruitment entity on Portuguese flag ships, for a period of 4 years, after fulfilling all the requirements and presenting the respective bank guarantee.
According to the Maritime Labor Convention (MLC), when private seafarers recruitment and placement services recruit and place a significant number of seafarers, and operate in the territory of a Member State, they can only carry out their activity under a standardized system of licensing, certification, or any other form of regulation.
The certification of these agencies by the Maritime Administration makes it possible to ensure compliance with the rights of workers regarding their working conditions on board, as well as the respective obligations towards seafarers and the Maritime Administration, complying with the MLC, 2006, of the International Labor Organization
