In a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Economy and the Sea, António Costa Silva, and with the presence of the Secretary of State for the Sea, José Maria Costa, a collaboration protocol was signed on June 20, 2022 between the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM) and the WavEC - Offshore Renewables Study and Knowledge Transfer Center, which will allow joint work between the two entities.
The scope provided for in the protocol has its motto in the different activities of the Blue Economy, which includes projects and activities for training, research and development of Offshore Renewable Energies, Offshore Aquaculture, Marine Environment, Multipurpose Platforms, Maritime Spatial Planning, among others.
The transfer of scientific knowledge and the approximation between academia and sectoral regulation are essential aspects in enhancing the national interest in matters of the sea, namely those that promote a sustainable blue economy.
The Director-General of DGRM, José Carlos Simão, and Professor António Sarmento signed the protocol, and the Minister for the Economy and the Sea approved it.
