Visit by Portuguese Navy and Air Force students to the Maritime Traffic Control and Fisheries Surveillance Centers
On May 24, 2022, within the scope of the Improvement Course on Inspection in Maritime Spaces, a visit by Portuguese Navy and Air Force students took place to the Maritime Control and Traffic Center and Fisheries Control and Surveillance Center, in Palace of Arches.
In the first part of the visit, the trainees were accompanied by the Chief of Operations Division of Maritime Traffic Control, Ana Faneca, with the aim of getting to know the coastal maritime traffic service. It was possible to observe in loco how the traffic monitoring systems (VTS) work.
Then, they went to the Fisheries Control and Surveillance Center, in the presence of the Head of Maritime Activities Control Division, Ana Paula Simão, who showed and explained how the MONICAP system, a system for continuous monitoring of fishing vessels, works by satellite, and the SIFICAP system that supports surveillance, inspection and control of fishing activities at a national level.
