On March 25th, took place the celebration of the consignment act between the contractor and Polis Litoral Norte, for the dredging contract of the Vila Praia de Âncora port, which will allow to re-establish the operational and security conditions of this Minho's port.

The contract results from a partnership between DGRM and Polis Litoral Norte, which contemplated the launch of an international public tender for the dredging contract, whose award value is around 2 million euros.

This contract is financed by the Operational Programme for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (POSEUR), and the national component, worth about 0.5 million euros, is supported by DGRM.

Through the removal and migration of sands from the bar, entrance channel and port basin of the port, 110,000 m3 of aggregates will be moved for the artificial feeding, protection and rehabilitation of the natural coastal system of the Caldeirões dune.

In this way, the active defence of the coastline with the optimisation of the hydrodynamic balance of the coastal strip is achieved, and, simultaneously, the service quotas established in Pluriannual Dredging Plan 2018 - 2022 for this port are restored.

It is recalled that the port of Vila Praia de Âncora is of great importance for the region, not only for nautical activities in general, but also for the specific fishing activity, in which the swordfish is the most emblematic fish of this area.
