Description
Device of different dimensions and shapes, built by a rigid structure, by itself or a rigid structure lined by a net, which delimits a compartment whose access is made through one or more easy openings, but whose use in the opposite direction is difficult, thus allowing the capture of prey.
Mesh classes
Depending on the species to be captured, certain classes of mesh size 8 mm to 29 mm, 30 mm to 50 mm and> 50 mm may be used, and certain parts of the trap may have a lower mesh (case of endiches). Lobster and lobster fishing can be done with traps made from wooden slats, at least 40 mm apart.
Target species
Mesh size 8 to 29 mm: octopus, navalheira, white shrimp with a minimum of 90% of target species. This mesh size is only authorized for local vessels registered in the Captaincies between Caminha and Figueira da Foz.
Mesh size 30 to 50 mm: fish, octopus, cuttlefish, crayfish and razor with a minimum of 80% of target species.
Mesh size> 50 mm: All species including lobster, lobster and crab.
Area of action
Cage traps 8 to 29 mm: from the shoreline, for vessels with CFF up to 9 m, the licensing of vessels with more than 9 meters CFF, registered in the jurisdiction areas of the Capitanias de Caminha à Figueira da Foz, is not allowed.
Cage traps 30 to 50 mm and > 50 mm: from the coast line, for vessels with CFF up to 9 m, and out of 1 mile distance to the coast line, for the other vessels.
Other constraints
It prohibits fishing in an area of the Costa Vicentina between 37º 50´N and 37º 00´ between December and February.
It is prohibited to fish for crayfish with cage traps between 1 May and 31 August in an area off Sines (between 38º 10´N and 37º 45´N).
Fishing for legitimate white shrimp is only permitted until the Captaincy of Figueira da Foz is prohibited between June and September.
Between the 1st of January and the 30th of April, all roaches that are captured must be discarded and returned to the sea.
Between January 1 and January 31, it is prohibited to capture, with this art and all other arts, gamba, red shrimp, purple shrimp, cardinal prawn and crayfish.
